Roxbury High School Extra Curricular Accomplishments / Key Events

In the co-curricular area, RHS students enjoyed numerous individual and collective successes.

The school newspaper, Roxbury Review, garnered several awards including first place in overall excellence in the Garden State Scholastic Press Association’s (GSSPA) annual journalism competition.  This is the third straight year that Review has been so recognized.  It was also recognized for excellence in a number of categories and numerous individual student awards were handed out to Roxbury pupils at that competition.

Our music program received recognitions, both collective and individual, almost too numerous to mention.  The Classic Sounds Honors Choir and the Honors Wind Symphony were selected, for the second time in four years, to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.  All levels/groups of the choir program received top scores at every adjudicated event they entered.  Six RHS freshman students sang in the all state junior high chorus, 16 others sang in the all state chorus, six pupils sang with the all eastern chorus, and three students sang with the ACDA national choir!

The Wind Symphony was invited to the state gala festival (for the 12th straight year) recognizing it at one of the top five bands in New Jersey.  This year the state ran a jazz festival, and our jazz ensemble was invited to perform there as well.  The marching band was placed second at the USSBA All-States Championships (second best band on East Coast).  Seven pupils played in Region 1 band, 3 played in the all state symphonic band, 2 played in the all state wind ensemble, one played in the all eastern orchestra, and one played in the all eastern wind ensemble.  One pupil performed with the strings section of the all state orchestra.

The Key Club was cited for outstanding achievement at the district and the state conference.  Our science league team placed sixth in the state in their annual competition.  The debate team won a number of forensic competitions during the year.  Art students had their work selected for the Blackwell Street exhibit, for the fresh perspectives show and for the Congressional show sponsored by Rep. Frelinghuysen.  A number of students were recognized for their projects at the Craftsmen’s Fair, and some others were awarded prizes for their successes at the DECA and FBLA competitions.

Roxbury High School Athletic Accomplishments

The athletic program is another area where there were numerous student achievements, both collectively and individually.  We fielded championship teams (conference, state section, and/or group) in the following sports:  Girls Soccer, Girls Cross Country, Wrestling, Boys and Girls Indoor Track, Girls Spring Track.  All but three varsity teams were invited to compete in the state tournament in their respective sport.  Individual student titles were handed out in cross country, indoor track and in outdoor track.
