Roxbury Public Schools Curriculum
The Roxbury Public School District is committed to the development of a high quality curriculum, aligned to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Curriculum is constantly under revision, with teachers and administrators working to ensure that our students are challenged to learn the most relevant, meaningful, and appropriate understandings. We are committed to three key research-based principles of curriculum:
- Success at transfer depends on understanding the big ideas that connect otherwise isolated or inert facts, skills, and experiences, so that new challenges can be met and new experiences understood.
- An understanding is a learner realization about the power of an idea. Understandings cannot be given; they have to be engineered so that learners see for themselves the power of an idea for making sense of things.
- Learners need clear, completely transparent priorities and a practical understanding of how learning goals are to be met in terms of work products and standards of excellence.1
Our Five Year Curriculum Alignment and Documentation Plan for 2010-2015 is available via the tab on the left. Specific information about the four “core” curriculum areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science is outlined below.
