The Student Activities at Eisenhower Middle School

 

Academic Team
Advisor:

Description:
The Academic Bowl practices Mondays and Thursdays and competes Monday evenings against other area schools in a “Jeopardy” type of game. Questions range from math, science, history, literature, grammar, and current events to sports, movies, and TV.  Runs November through May.

 
Art Club

Advisor:
Mrs. Pessolano

Description:
The objective of the EMS Art Club is to provide an extra curricular activity for those students who enjoy and/or excel in the visual arts area. Activities include both individual and group projects that are not covered in the Art curriculum due to time or budget restraints.

Runs all year—3 sessions/6 times.  Students sign up for 2 of the 3 sessions.  This allows students to work art club around their sport or other after school activities.  Students have a chance to explore art media that is not worked on in class as well as work more intensely with various art materials.

Builders Club
Advisor:
Ms. Kranik
Description:
Middle School version of Kiwanis, Key Club, K-Kids.  Meets every 2 weeks, 2:30 - 3:30 and does community service projects such as, Hunger Walk, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches for shelter, Pet Food Drive, Cards for Nursing Home, etc.
 
Chess Club:

Mr. Mittag

Description:
The chess club meets twice a month in September, October, and November, and once in December on Tuesdays.  Sign up forms are available in the media center.  No chess experience necessary to join and it is easy to learn the game.  Mini-Tournaments are scheduled each month with a school - wide tournament scheduled for March/April.  The chess club also competes against other schools throughout the local area during the months of January, February, and March.

Description:

Usually runs approx. Dec. – May., meeting in conjunction with the Chess Club.  Additional competitions against other schools are added to the schedule as they become available throughout the school year.  Qualifying tryouts are in December.  Questions?  Contact Chess Coach.

 
Drama Club

Description:

Audition and Rehearse for EMS musicals -- actors, dancers, singers, and crew.  November--info meeting; December--auditions; January--rehearsals begin; End of March/Early April--SHOW TIME.

Encores Choir
Advisor:

Description:

An auditioned singing ensemble that performs at community events as well as at the Winter and Spring Vocal Concerts.   Music performed is at a higher level of difficulty and more varied style of music than 7th and 8th grade choir.  You must be a 7th or 8th grade choir member to audition.   Runs September thru May.

Harmonies

Description:

An auditioned treble choir that rehearses one hour a week after school and performs during the winter season.  Students must be members of one of the curricular choirs to audition for Harmonies.

Jazz Band

Description:

Meets every Wednesday October thru May.  An auditioned 7th & 8th grade ensemble that explores all the styles of jazz music.  Performances include the RHS Jazz Night , the Night of Unity, and more to come.

 
Math League
Advisors:

Description:
Runs October thru April.  The top 7th and 8th grade math students compete in several state and nationwide competitions during the year. 
 

Micro Medics

Advisor:

Mr. Kummerer

Description:

We will be helping the teachers with any technology-related problem (computers, Smartboards, etc.). Sign up on the Student Council bulletin board. We will be meeting on Tuesdays. We hope that our first meeting will be on February 7th. We are currently drafting a sign-up form.

 
Newspaper Club
Advisor:
Mrs. Loeb
Description:
Runs all year, meeting approximately twice each month at 7:30 AM.  Students write about events, clubs, activities, etc., that take place here at EMS.  Some students create monthly columns such as a movie review, horoscope, etc., while others write short stories and poetry.
 
Peer Leaders - 8th Graders Only
Advisor:
Mrs. G. Esposito
Description:
Dedicated to helping prevent students from using drugs and alcohol.  Focuses on student development through team building, public speaking, and education about drugs and alcohol.  Leaders act as mentors to the 6th graders through four prepared outreaches in the spring.  Application process is in the spring of the 7th grade year.
 
Ski & Snowboard Club
Advisor:
Ms. Kranik
Description:
This club is run directly through Roxbury Community School.  Registration forms may be obtained here at EMS, and will be accepted at the Community School through October 15th.  However, space is limited.   
 
Yearbook Club
Advisor:
Mrs. Farina
Description:
Involves all aspects of publishing--design layout, writing, photography, proofreading, editing, advertising, marketing, publicity and sale. Students also learn cooperation, dedication, time management, and responsibility.
