The guiding principles at Eisenhower Middle School are Encourage, Master, and Succeed. Our mission is to create a caring community of learners through academic curricula, after school programs, building initiatives, and partnership with community and educational resources. We are committed to ensuring that every student has the fullest educational opportunity to achieve personal best while fostering social emotional growth that promotes respect for self and others as a foundation for their future and good citizenship.
This year, Eisenhower Middle School is home to approximately 665 seventh and eighth grade students. The Roxbury School District is a proud and progressive district whose goal is to prepare the 21st century learner. Our teachers believe in educating our youth so that they are prepared for the successes and challenges in their future. The school climate, courses, and activities all support a positive, purposeful, and safe learning environment.
Students are heterogeneously grouped on interdisciplinary teams. The core content area teachers are comprised of, English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. In addition, Computer Science, World Language, Art, Music, Health and Physical Education are offered through our cycle courses. These teachers work collaboratively to provide meaningful and effective learning that connects content areas and is responsive to our students’ needs. As Information Literacy is essential in today’s world, technology is integrated across all curricula. Our Guidance department supports students, parents, and staff with comprehensive support services to meet the needs of young adolescents.
Eisenhower Middle School has a diverse array of activities to encourage and enhance personal development. Clubs and activities include: Academic and Math Teams, Art, Book, Broadcast, Builders, Computer, Chess, CWEB, Drama, Green, Literary Magazine, Sports, Yearbook, Student Council, Peer Leadership, Band, Orchestra, Choir, Jazz Band, and Encores. Students may also participate in our intramural sports program that includes indoor soccer, volleyball, and basketball. This year with our new schedule, students now experience Discovery classes. Their focus encompasses school beautification, cultural awareness, school spirit, and service learning. Our goal is to enhance the social emotional growth and self expression of our students. All of these teacher-guided programs empower students and create opportunities for students to explore and expand their talents and interests. Through these endeavors, students can develop valuable collaborative skills, build friendships, and give back to the Roxbury community that supports them.
Eisenhower Middle School and its stakeholders share a vision of providing all students with the knowledge and skills they need to direct their own lives with self-fulfillment and caring habits to others. Initiatives that impact the educational and social emotional growth of our students are expanding. These include the Advisory Program, the I CAN Mentoring Program, and the school-wide Character Education Committee. Eisenhower Middle School is partnered with Rutgers University’s Improving School Climate for Academic and Life Success (ISCALS), Rowan University’s Social Norms Project, and United Way of Morris County where our students have created and are piloting a middle school website made by and for middle school students in Morris County. Eisenhower Middle School recently won a United Way of Morris County Live United Education Award.
Our staff development programs reflect the best educational practices and research with Professional Learning Communities embedded within our academic day. The PTA is an integral part of our success as a school and we maintain a strong link with parents through its active participation. Our students deserve the best education possible and all Eisenhower Middle School stakeholders are participating in sharing the duties to ensure the goal is achieved.
