Our Mission
The mission of the school library media center program is to prepare students to become effective and efficient users of resources, ideas, information and other intellectual properties.
- Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning, American Association of School Librarians
The EMS Media Center serves a variety of purposes within Information Literacy. Each aspect of our purpose is essential to our students’ intellectual, academic, emotional, vocational, social, and personal growth. We provide our students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary for success in our multi-cultural, multi-media world.
The EMS Media Center:
- Provides instruction that fosters an appreciation for the various forms of media and stimulates an interest in reading;
- Encourages students and faculty to become effective users of ideas and information;
- Offers accessibility to a comprehensive collection of materials that support and extend our students’ informational, recreational and cultural needs;
- Supports all educators in the design and implementation of Roxbury Public Schools curriculums, so that the needs of all students are met;
- Inspires a life-long desire to learn.
The EMS Library Media Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:09 a.m. until 2:29 p.m. You are welcome to use the library for study groups, individual study, to read, or to browse the various sections in the library.
You must have your current ID to check books out from the library. To use the computers in the library for any reason, students must first have their internet access agreement submitted.
Books are checked out for a two-week time period. Students may renew books as long as they have the books with them and a reserve has not been placed on the books. Reference books are not checked out.
No food or drinks are permitted in the library at any time.
