Students in Miss Amy Freund’s Fourth Grade Class know how good it
feels to give to others. In June,
the students conducted a “Book Trade.” The original goal of the trade was to
have students bring in books they had previously bought and read and trade for
"like new" summer reading books and also books for their next year of
reading; however, as the collection of books got underway, Miss Freund and her
students realized that they could do much more than just trade.
As a result of the tremendous turn out for the “Book Trade,” Miss Freund and her students added a charity component to their event. Students were encouraged to donate books to The Bristol - Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Since there were so many donations, Miss Freund and her students also donated a box of books to Morristown Memorial Hospital, a local hospital that recently added on a new children’s wing, and a box of books also went to The Children's Hospital in New Brunswick, a large hospital specializing in young children.
According to Miss Freund, “Kids love reading and the students and families at Jefferson School feel great about donating to children.”
