November 3, 2003, Succasunna, NJ…Thirty-three members of the Eisenhower Middle School Builder’s Club participated in the 2003 hunger walk that benefits the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, New Jersey. The walk was a 5-K pledge walk to raise money to support this event.
The Builder’s Club under the leadership of Lynn Kranik, Debbie Skop, and Patty Winez raised over $1180 in support of the Soup Kitchen; this was the third highest amount raised of all participating schools.
Walkers assumed the identity of a composite soup kitchen guest and tracked their story through cards that were handed out during the walk. The characters in the story card were fictional, but the problems they faced were real. The Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown provides a hot, nutritious noontime meal to an average of 120 homeless and working poor a day, every day of the year. For many Soup Kitchen guests, this is the only meal of the day. All of the students had an enjoyable day for a worthwhile cause.
