READ ACROSS AMERICA AT KENNEDY SCHOOL

On March 4, 2204, 515 people celebrated the Kennedy School “Read Across America” evening festivities.  Kennedy School students, their siblings and their parents rotated through various classrooms to be read to by Guest Readers.

Forty-one Guest Readers donated their time to share their love of reading with the Kennedy Community.  They included:  Roxbury Mayor Thomas Vickery, Mr. Daniel Illiano-Principal Kennedy School, Mrs. Karen Carlson – Supervisor of Applied Sciences (K-5), a variety of Kennedy School teachers and many Kennedy School parents.  Other special Guest Readers were 15 Roxbury High School students, 3 Lincoln/Roosevelt students, members of Webelos Troops #7 and #8 and members of Girl Scout Troop #1670.

After enjoying many different books, everyone met in the Kennedy School All-Purpose room to view a play entitled, “Rocks Rock.”  The Kennedy School Third Graders performed this play, which focused on four famous presidents on Mount Rushmore, as well as many American heroes/heroines and symbols of America.

The play, “Rocks Rock” was written and directed by Mrs. Barbara Drelich, Kennedy Library Media Specialist and Mrs. Linda Mezzino, Kennedy Music Teacher, taught the music.  Mrs. Kathy Wall, a Kennedy School parent, accompanied on the piano.
