October 3, 2003, Succasunna, New Jersey… October 23 through October 31, 2003 is designated as National Red Ribbon Week. This week is devoted to creating a healthy, drug-free future of America. Government, businesses and education leaders are being asked to get out the message that drugs and violence will not be tolerated in our schools and community.
Roxbury, in cooperation with the Roxbury Municipal Alliance Committee (ROMAC), are proud to be participating in Red Ribbon Week with the district wide theme of “Follow Your Dreams, Don’t Do Drugs.” The students in the district will be presented with red ribbons and will be given the opportunity to participate in district wide theme days.
The following is a schedule of the Theme Days for Red Ribbon Week:
ü Thursday, October 23-“Tie one on Against Drugs” – students are asked to wear a tie to school.
ü Friday, October 24 – “Team up Against Drugs” – Students are asked to wear team jerseys.
ü Monday, October 27 – “Red Day” – Students are asked to wear red clothing to school.
ü Tuesday, October 28 – “Drugs and I don’t mix” – Students are asked to wear mismatched clothing.
ü Wednesday, October 29 – “Too Cool to do Drugs” – students are asked to wear sunglasses to school (at the High School, students will wear hats)
ü Thursday, October 30 – “Drug free you can be anything you want to be” – Students are asked to bring in a canned food item that will be donated to the local food bank.
ü Friday, October 31 – “Say Boo to Drugs” – Students will receive a surprise at school (at the High School, students are asked to wear costumes to school.
Additionally, a poster contest, conducted by ROMAC, will take place at the elementary schools. Judging of these posters will take place on October 30th.
The prevention of violence and substance abuse in the schools and community is a team effort. As a result, red ribbons will be given to parents of K-8 students. These ribbons can be displayed on their cars to demonstrate support. Thank you for your support in National Red Ribbon Week.
