Mrs. Terry Negin, Computer teacher at Lincoln/Roosevelt School and Ms. Christine Capra, Art teacher at Lincoln/Roosevelt School, were awarded a Roxbury Foundation for Educational Excellence Grant for 2003 –2004. This grant enables the Art and Computer Club students to create, construct, and distribute a literary magazine. This project offers all the students at Lincoln/Roosevelt the opportunity to have their creative writing and illustrations published.
This grant enables the clubs to combine visual arts and technology, as the members use the Internet to research great artists like Leonardo DaVinci and great masterpieces like “American Gothic.” Students will be able to add a modern twist to the art that they find, as they apply digital imaging to their illustrations.
As a way to involve the entire student population in this project, a naming contest was held. Each class at Lincoln/Roosevelt was asked to submit a name for the magazine. Mrs. Schultz’s Fourth Grade class won the contest with the title, “School Illustrated”. Their class has enjoyed an Ice Cream Sundae Party sponsored by Lincoln/Roosevelt’s PTA.
