VETERAN’S HONORED AT KENNEDY SCHOOL

On June 11, 2004, the second grade students of Kennedy School held a tribute to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2833 and its Ladies Auxiliary, both located in Kenvil, New Jersey.

The event was organized by second grade Kennedy school teacher, Nancy Sekella.  Assisting in the tribute were second grade teachers - Mrs. Margie Walsh, Mrs. Dollie Blanks and Mrs. Karen Fasino, as well as all of their students.  The tribute was organized as a way to teach the children that veterans are valued heroes of our country.

Mrs. Sekella was given the National Citizenship Education Teacher Award by The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 2833 at a presentation during the April 13, 2004 Roxbury Town Council meeting. This award was in recognition of Mrs. Sekella's contributions as an outstanding educator who cares deeply about America and its children.

Mrs. Sekella has been nicknamed "Ms. Red, White, and Blue" by her co-workers because of her dedicated effort to instill a sense of national pride in her students by teaching them about American history, traditions, institutions, civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism.  Mrs. Sekella was also recognized by the Roxbury Board of Education at it's June 7, 2004 Board of Education meeting as a nominee for this year's Governor's Teacher of the Year.
