As the school year began in the Roxbury School District, Ms. Marilyn McSpiritt was welcomed as the new Director of Food Services.
Ms. McSpiritt embarked on a career change to become a dietitian and returned to complete her studies at the College of Saint Elizabeth’s in Madison, New Jersey where she completed a dietetic internship program, and earned her Master of Nutrition Degree.
After studying at College of Saint Elizabeth, Ms. McSpiritt secured a position as a clinical dietitian at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. After a short time, a new opportunity arose and Marilyn accepted the challenge – the Director of Food Services for the Berkeley Heights School District. “It was a wonderfully rewarding position, both personally and professionally,” states Mrs. McSpiritt. “I had the opportunity to impact the health of the students and their families through nutrition education, lectures, meal planning and making the cafeterias a good place to be.”
As Mrs. McSpiritt pursued her career in the Berkley Heights School District, she was asked to teach at the College of Saint Elizabeth as an adjunct professor. “This was another opportunity that I thoroughly enjoyed. It enabled me to enhance my professional skills, as well as demonstrate to others how very passionate I am about nutrition and the role it plays in our lives. It also allowed me the opportunity to further communicate to others how the right knowledge and education can keep one healthy and prevent disease.” Additionally, in order to keep her clinical skills current, Mrs. McSpiritt also works per diem at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
According to Mrs. McSpiritt, “I am excited to have been hired as the Director of Food Services for the Roxbury School District where I can make a difference utilizing the skills I’ve learned throughout my professional life to impact the health and future of the students and their families.” “I look forward to the challenges this position will offer me. I thoroughly enjoy coming to work each day, I have a wonderful staff, which creates a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for the faculty, staff and students
Ms. RuthAnn Quinn – Roxbury School District, Business Administrator, states, “We are very happy to have welcomed a registered dietician to the Roxbury Administration. We know Ms. McSpiritt will make a big difference in the cafeteria program for all students in the Roxbury School District.”
Ms.
McSpirrit is the mother of five children and resides in West Caldwell.
In her free time she loves to travel, spend time with her children and
close friends, reading, photography, cooking, gardening, painting, going to the
gym and running.
