Students in Mrs. Dana Taggart’s First Grade class at Jefferson School recently presented a play entitled, Dreaming of George and Abe. This play, which was performed for parents/guardians, other First Graders and Fourth Grade Reading Buddies, enabled Mrs. Taggart’s students to learn about the history behind the nationally recognized President’s Day.
As students prepared for the play, they not only
learned about George Washington and
Abraham Lincoln, but they also reinforced a variety of skills, such as reading
and memorizing their lines, speaking orally, working cooperatively and
developing scenery. Mrs. Taggart
comments, “Preparing for this play has been a very exciting and sometimes
challenging process. This is a great interdisciplinary unit of our reading,
speaking/listening, and social studies curricula.”
