ROXBURY STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ELECTIONS

As the nation prepared for the 2004 Presidential Election, the elementary school students of the Roxbury School District had the opportunity to participate in the voting process, too.

At Franklin, Jefferson, Kennedy, Nixon and Lincoln/Roosevelt Schools, students had the chance to become a “registered” voter and then participate in an election.  Some of the schools had the students voting on the next American President, while others had students voting on school mascot names and favorite cartoon characters.

This process provided the students with the opportunity to learn about the voting process and become familiar with a voting booth; and most importantly, the concept that everyone’s vote counts was reinforced.
