FOURTH GRADERS FEAST ON LEARNING

Fourth Graders at Franklin School feasted in  celebration of  a study focusing on one of their core books entitled, "A Very Important Day." This story is about various families who are currently living in the United States but are not yet citizens. The story discusses the various feelings that each of the families is having during the preparation for this special event. It concludes with having each family coming before a judge, becoming United States citizens and receiving a certificate.

According to Miss Nicole Perelli, Fourth Grade teacher at Franklin School, “We felt that since we read this story towards the end of the year, having a feast to represent the many cultures that the students are would fit in perfectly with this story about citizenship and cultures as well.”

Each child and his / her family had the option of participating and preparing an  appetizer, entree, or dessert to represent their culture.  Students were also encouraged to bring in a recipe for the food that they were serving.  These recipes were then copied and compiled into a recipe book for each of the students to take home and share with their families.
