First Grade students at Kennedy school have recently created a community entitled, Kidsville. The creation of this community was the end result of an interdisciplinary thematic unit, which focused on family and community and incorporated objectives from the first grade’s social studies, language arts and math curriculums.
As a way to prepare for the creation of this community, the first grade classes were each assigned a specific goal. One class discussed the laws, which govern our nation and in turn, created a set of laws to be followed by all those in Kidsville. Other classes developed maps and symbols for this town, while yet another class created holidays to be recognized by all those participating in Kidsville.
