METRIC MADNESS AT LINCOLN/ROOSEVELT

After the success of the October Metric Olympics for the sixth grade students and the school wide Mass Measurement contest in the cafeterias for all the students at Lincoln/Roosevelt School, the metric estimation contests have continued.

In December, a ribbon of mints hung in the main hallway of the Roosevelt School.  Students were invited to estimate the metric length of the mints.  The contest was a big success with a sixth grader coming very close in her 3.70 meters estimation to the actual 3.80 meters measurement.

The fun continued in February with a liter estimation contest.  An unusual shaped bottle of liquid was placed outside the main office for viewing and estimating from February 1, 2005 to February 18, 2005.  Students were  invited to estimate the liters of the liquid for a prize.  Adam Richman on Team S in Mrs. Fran Miller's homeroom was the big winner of the Liter Estimation contest.  He got several liters of Gatorade to share with his team and a personal bottle of Gatorade for himself.

The metric system estimation contests, which are spearheaded by Mrs. Liz Bonis, Lincoln/Roosevelt teacher, have been a wonderful way to compliment the math and science curriculums for all students at Lincoln Roosevelt School.
