The Roxbury School District is proud to announce that the new elementary report cards are being used in the schools. The new format for the report cards incorporates reports on academics, social behaviors and work habits. While the format used presents many changes, the changes offer students, parents/guardians, teachers and administrators a tremendous amount of information on a child’s development in school. “The new report cards are the result of over a year and half effort by staff and administration. We hope that they will be very informative to all those that use them,” states Mrs. Patricia Bihon – Supervisor of Humanities, K-5.
The need for revisions, in the report card formats, developed over the past three years. During this time, the Roxbury School District had been able to revise curricula and purchase new instructional materials in all major academic areas for kindergarten through fifth grade. This along with the changes in the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards prompted the district to evaluate the previous report card formats.
A survey was designed and distributed to parents, teachers and community members to gather feedback about the previous kindergarten through fifth grade report cards and suggestions for possible revisions. The surveys pointed out that parents wanted more information about their child's performance in the academic areas, in addition to information about the social/personal behaviors exhibited by their child.
Based upon this information, the Roxbury School District Primary and Intermediate Curriculum Council committee members under the direction of the Mrs. Pat Bihon and Mrs. Karen Carlson, the elementary supervisors, worked to develop the new report card formats.
