NIXON SCHOOL REFURBISHES ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER

On April 22, 2005, students at Nixon School began the task of cleaning up and refurbishing the Nixon School Environmental Center.

Under the direction of teachers Mrs. Ruth Watkinson, Mrs. Maureen Milde, Mrs. Pamela Montgomery and Mr. Brian Sferra, approximately 60 Nixon School students welcomed Earth Day by raking up grass, rocks and debris, as well as cleaning out wooden planters in preparation for the planting of flowers.  In order to complete the first stages of work, there are plans for the teachers and students to reconvene on the next several Fridays.

Eventually, the teachers and students hope to replace all of the grass, repair the benches and picnic tables, as well as plant additional flowers and shrubs.  “The children appreciate the Environmental Center more when they take part in the cleanup and planting,” stated Mrs. Milde.
