THE POWER OF WORDS

Franklin School Fourth Graders in Miss Jenny Wnuk’s class learned the power of words, as they explored persuasive writing.  To make this genre of writing applicable to the students’ lives, Miss Wnuk had the students work cooperatively to write their very own movie reviews.  Following are the reviews, which the students wrote:

National Treasure (PG; 133 min) ***1/2
This is a spectacular movie.  When you watch it you can't take your eyes away from the screen because it is so full of action and mystery!  The movie is based on a main character that is trying to stop a treasure thief.  What makes the movie so adventurous is how it takes you around the world to show historical places.  The movie contains some crude language and bloodless violence.  This movie is so fantastic that it is a treasure.

The Polar Express (G; 97 min) ****
The Polar Express is a very outstanding and heartwarming movie.  Finding the true Christmas spirit in everyone is what the movie is all about.   This movie has a tremendous amount of excitement throughout the train adventures, but at some scenes it was a little dull.  All ages can watch this movie, but it might be scary to very young children.  Anyone would be really touched by this film.

Christmas With the Kranks (PG;98min) **
This was a mediocre movie.  The plot was based on an uninteresting concept where the parents in the Krank family were supposed to go on a cruise and skip Christmas.  The positive part that made the movie funny was the slapstick humor.  One example was when the father got a botox injection.  These parts of the story made the audience laugh out loud.  This movie had some rude language and inappropriate scenes.  You should think before going to see this movie.

The Incredibles (PG; 118 min) ****
Wow, another tremendously artistic and creative movie done by Pixar!  The movie was based on a family of superheroes that were trying to live a normal life. The Incredibles was both interesting and hilarious, but especially astounding when a secret was revealed at the end.  There was some violence, but only bloodless action.  It was truly incredible!

SpongeBob Squarepants The Movie (PG; 88min)***1/2
This movie is pure hilarious entertainment.  The story is about how SpongeBob and Patrick have to save King Neptune's crown in 6 days!!  SongeBob The Movie uses big action with real actors in a cartoon!  The graphics will take your breath away.  SpongeBob and Patrick are funnier than ever.  The movie has bloodless violence, but it is still suitable for kids 5 and up.  You will not want the laughs to end.

Shark Tales (PG; 92 min) ****
This was a spectacularly creative movie.  It was about how the main character Oscar the fish wanted to go to the Big City.  The characters individual personalities of mob sharks and hip hop fish were what really made the movie hilarious.  The characters were so lovable, adventurous, kind, heroic and stupendous.  In the movie many of the funny parts made the audience laugh out loud.  It did have some crude language.  This movie was unbelievable!
