SIXTH GRADE CLASS EXPLODING WITH VOLCANO KNOWLEDGE

Mrs. Elizabeth Bonis' sixth grade Lincoln/Roosevelt School class has celebrated Volcano week as a culmination to a unit on Volcanoes in Science class.

Activities which the students participated in included:  reading the diary of a scientist as he wrote about the days before and after the eruption of Mount Saint Helens, researching a volcano from anywhere in the world and presenting their findings to the other students in the class, creating a volcanic door decoration including interesting facts about the famous Mt. Saint Helens eruption, creating a cinder cone volcano cake and decorating it with edible elements found on a volcano,  conducting their own experiment to discover the relationship between the size and type of a volcanic eruption and the amount of gas that builds in the volcano before the actual eruption.  The students ended their week by viewing a video on the famous volcano of Pompeii.
