ROXBURY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN TROOP DRIVE

As the nation took time to honor Veterans, so too did Roxbury students and teachers.  At Jefferson School, the students of Mrs. Patti DeFilippis’ First Grade class initiated a “Wall of Honor,” which was proudly displayed in the school’s main lobby. This wall consisted of the names of Veterans who have served our country; each Veteran is in some way linked to a student or staff member in Jefferson School.

In addition to this “Wall of Honor” visitors at Jefferson School were also welcomed by a host of boxes containing a variety of everyday items, such as socks, long johns, tee shirts, toiletries, canned goods, snacks, books and board games.  These items were collected in response to a “Troop Drive” that was sponsored by Senator Anthony Bucco, Roxbury Township, Roxbury Police Department, VFW Post 2833, The 68th Precinct of Bay Ridge Brooklyn, Senator Martin Golden and the 68th Precinct Community Council.

Senator Bucco’s office has agreed to use Roxbury High School teacher, John Aslanian, who is currently serving with the Military Police in Iraq, as one of the point people to send all donations to for distribution.  Collected items are going to be given as holiday gifts to the troops in Iraq.
