The Roxbury Public Schools have been raising money to support various Tsunami Relief Funds. Following is a summary of the various efforts:
ü At Roxbury High School, the Key Club, under the advisor ship of Ms. Christine Pennella, has placed collection jars in the school’s Main Office, as well as in some Home Rooms. Monies will be donated to the UNICEF Southeast Asia Relief Fund.
ü At Eisenhower Middle School, the Student Council set up a few Play Stations at their Owen Toale Dance, which was held on January 14, 2005. Students paid $0.25 to play a game. Monies collected from these game stations, as well as monies from various collection jars throughout the school, are being donated to the UNICEF Southeast Asia Relief Fund.
ü At Lincoln/Roosevelt School, Team S has conducted a bake sale, where all monies collected are going towards the American Red Cross’s Relief Fund.
ü At Franklin School, Mr. Bob Messano, Franklin School Kindergarten teacher and children’s music composer and recording artist, will be holding a Benefit Concert on February 3, 2005 at 7:00 PM in the Franklin School All Purpose Room. A donation is requested as the price of admission and may be any amount that a family wishes to contribute.
ü At Jefferson School, students were asked to consider donating money, which they had earned by doing various chores around their homes, to the Red Cross – Southeast Relief Fund. This effort concluded on January 14, 2005; however, the school anticipates doing other projects to benefit Tsunami Relief Funds as part of their monthly “Acts of Kindness” initiative.
ü At Kennedy School, Mrs. Barbara Drelich, Kennedy School Media Specialist, has organized a Book Swap to help those affected by the Tsunami. Students were asked to bring in books they no longer read. Students were than able to purchase donated books for $0.25 each. All monies collected will be donated to the Red Cross Asian Relief Fund.
ü At Nixon School, the PTA collected donations at their January 21, 2005 Family Night event.
