Thanks to a grant from the Eisenhower Middle School Parent
Teacher Association, the students
recently spent the day with nationally known Fiber Artist, Daryl Lancaster as
they celebrated Youth Art Month with an Artist in Residence program.
The art room was abuzz with
activity as Ms. Lancaster spoke to the Art classes on what life as a
working artist is like and what it takes to succeed.
"Hard work and determination are essential to your success.
You cannot just rely on talent.”
Ms. Lancaster demonstrated weaving on a four-harness loom, as well as
displayed and discussed her hand-woven garments.
Ms.
Lancaster will return in the spring for a hands-on lesson with the eighth
graders. Art Teacher, Mrs. Marie Pessolano, stated,
"It was wonderful for the students to see and hear about the art
process from a working artist. The students and staff haven't stopped talking
about what a great program it was."
