LINCOLN-ROOSEVELT STUDENTS COMMUNICATE WITH PEN PALS IN NEW ZEALAND

Fifth grade students at Lincoln/Roosevelt Elementary School have been writing to their sixth grade pen pals at the Kaurilands School in Auckland, New Zealand, since September 2005.

Mrs. Bourdon’s fifth grade students have enjoyed learning about their New Zealand friends and have found that they have many things in common.  They have shared letters, photos, books, and postcards and have learned many interesting facts about New Zealand and it’s people.  In turn, they have shared information about life in the United States and have educated their pen pals about our climate, seasons, holidays, and school routines.  The two teachers met while vacationing in Fiji and discovered that they both taught children who were the same ages.

The children hope to continue their communications in the New Year, although in New Zealand, the school year breaks for summer vacation in December!  They will reconnect after vacation ends for the New Zealand students in February.
