NIXON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RECEIVES WAL-MART GRANT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER

On May 16, 2006, the Nixon Elementary School received a $500 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation through the local Ledgewood Wal-Mart store, # 2569.  Wal-Mark store representative Sharon Wallman and store manager Glenn Woemer were instrumental in helping to obtain the grant which will be used to further refurbish Nixon’s outdoor Environmental Center.

According to teachers, “It is becoming more and more beautiful each week.”  Planned additions to the Environmental Center include bird feeders, birdhouses, a birdbath, and a small weather station.  ESL teacher Mr. Brian Sferra is quite proud of this special edition.  "When the weather is nice, teachers and students use the outdoor center daily.”

Thank you Wal-Mart for supporting the efforts of the teachers and students in the Roxbury School District!
