The Roxbury Parents of Exceptional Children (PEC) in
conjunction with the Roxbury School Special Services department hosted a program
through the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN).
The workshop, lead by SPAN’s Director of Parent &
Professional Development, Penny Dragonetti, focused
on Basic Rights in Special Education.
It served as an introduction to the rights and responsibilities of
parents with children having special needs under the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the New Jersey Code, and Section 504.
Parents learned laws and advocacy
strategies that will help their children reach their future goals.
The Roxbury School District’s new Director of Special Services, Ms. Diane Mari, was very pleased to have 45 people attend this program. In addition to parents, Roxbury teachers and administrators participated in this informative workshop.
