SCHOOL TEACHER BRINGS BASEBALL INTO THE CLASSROOM

Mr. Dan Pojedinic, a teacher at Lincoln/Roosevelt School in Succasunna, saw an opportunity to bring the Sussex Skyhawks into the classroom.  "School Day with the Skyhawks" brings students out to the Augusta, New Jersey ballpark to see a minor league baseball team.

There is a little more than a game of baseball involved though.  Mr. Pojedinic has prepared lessons to be incorporated into the curriculum that includes finding averages, dimensions of a baseball diamond, a racial awareness piece about Jackie Robinson, poetry, and map skills.  Mr. Pojedinic submitted his proposal to the Skyhawks, and the Independent League Team is going to support the lesson plans by sending them to schools that have signed up to attend their "School Day" promotion.

Mr. Pojedinec feels his hard work will pay off.  “My compensation was simple, I wanted a hat and knowing that students were having fun learning was all I needed.”
