The Roxbury School District proudly welcomes Mrs. Elizabeth G. Azar as Principal of Nixon Elementary School.

Mrs. Azar brings a wealth of experience to her new position at Nixon Elementary School.  Before joining Roxbury, Mrs. Azar served the Montville School District as an Acting Principal/Teacher-in-Charge/Elementary Lead Teacher.  Prior to this position, she served the school district as a teacher in both grades one and five.

Mrs. Azar holds a Master of Arts in Education, Educational Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Louisville, Kentucky.  In addition to her academic achievements, in 2005 Mrs. Azar was selected as Montville's Elementary Teacher of the Year and is a “Master Teacher of Technology.”

Her resume highlights many wonderful attributes that she will bring to our school district.  However, as Mrs. Azar states, “My ability to motivate students, teachers and community, and to share the love of learning, fosters a successful school environment…I would welcome becoming a part of ‘the village that raises the child’ in your district.” Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Dennis Mack, feels that Mrs. Azar will be a good fit for Nixon,  “Although it is always hard to see a person like Mr. Cavo leave, I feel that Mrs. Azar will step in and the Nixon students, staff, and parents/guardians will find another person of quality.”

Mrs. Azar joined Roxbury as Principal of Nixon School on February 5, 2007. Her first day of school as a Principal was quite special.  Mrs. Azar said, “I opened the day with a "Getting to Know you Assembly" where I wore big white gloves and played the song "Getting to Know You" from the Broadway Show, “The King and I.” I spent time talking to students and staff about dreams and how dreams can come true.  It has always been my dream to make a difference in the lives of children, and being a principal is a wonderful opportunity to do that.”

Mrs. Azar is truly excited to be a part of the Nixon School community. "There are so many wonderful learning opportunities taking place at Nixon Elementary School!  I am proud to become a part of it.  The students and staff welcomed me on Monday with flowers and a Welcome Banner.  I am looking forward to getting to know the students, families and staff in Roxbury,” said Mrs. Azar.
