October 2006
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
October 23-31, 2006 is designated as National Red Ribbon Week. This week is devoted to creating a healthy, drug-free future of America. Government, business and education leaders are being asked to get out the message that drugs and violence will not be tolerated in our schools and community.
Roxbury Schools, in cooperation with the Roxbury Municipal Alliance Committee (ROMAC), are proud to be participating in Red Ribbon Week with the district wide theme of “Not Just for a Week, But for Life.” The students in the district will be presented with red silicone bracelets and will be given the opportunity to participate in district wide theme days.
The following is a schedule of the Theme Days for Red Ribbon Week:
Monday 10/23- “Believe, Achieve, Succeed…Drug Free”- students are asked to wear red to show that they believe in a drug free future
Tuesday 10/24- “Plant the promise for a drug free future”-students are asked to wear green to show they will grow into healthy adults
Wednesday 10/25- “Be the best you can be, drug free”- students are asked to bring in a canned food item that will be donated to the local food bank.
Thursday 10/26- “My future is bright, drug free”- students are asked to wear bright colored clothing to school
Friday 10/27- “Smart enough to walk away from drugs and violence”- students are asked to wear sneakers to school
I hope that you will discuss Red Ribbon Week with your child and encourage him/her to participate in the daily activities. The prevention of violence and substance abuse in the schools and community is a team effort, and the team would not be complete without you, the parent.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Colleen White
