ROXBURY GRADUATE EARNS THIRD PLACE IN THE NATION AT THE NAACP CONFERENCE

Roxbury Alumni Jemima Akinsanya recently attended the NAACP Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) in Detroit, Michigan thanks to the support of Principal Mr. Jeffrey Swanson.

Ms. Akinsanya placed 3rd in the nation for her physics project, “Lemon Battery.”  When asked about Ms. Akinsanya’s accomplishment, Roxbury High School Principal, Mr. Jeffrey Swanson said, “Jemima has demonstrated outstanding scholarship throughout her career at Roxbury, thus it comes as no surprise that she has earned such a prestigious award!  We are all very proud of her accomplishments.”

Ms. Akinsanya was awarded a laptop and one-thousand dollars for winning 3rd place. ACT-SO is a yearlong enrichment program designed to recruit, stimulate, improve and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African American high school students. Gold medalists at the local level qualify for the national finals held at the NAACP convention each summer.

Ms. Akinsanya is currently attending Montclair State University and is enrolled in the Health Careers Program.
