October 23-31, 2007 is designated as National Red Ribbon Week. This week is devoted to creating a healthy, drug-free future of America.  Government, business and education leaders are being asked to get out the message that drugs and violence will not be tolerated in our schools and community.

Roxbury Schools, in cooperation with the Roxbury Municipal Alliance Committee (ROMAC), are proud to participate in Red Ribbon Week with the district wide theme of “Being Drug Free…Priceless.”  The students in the district will be presented with red silicone bracelets and be given the opportunity to participate in district wide theme days.

The district will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 22-26.

The following is the proposed schedule of the Theme Days for Red Ribbon Week:

Monday 10/22-“Striving for a Better Tomorrow by Being Drug Free 24/7/365”- Staff and students are asked to wear red clothing to show they believe in a drug free tomorrow.

Tuesday 10/23- Our School is Too Cool to do Drugs”- Staff and students are asked to wear sunglasses to school.

Wednesday 10/24- “Being Drug Free Comes in Cans, I Can, You Can, We Can”- Staff and students are asked to bring in a canned food item that will be donated to the local food bank.

Thursday 10/25-“We’ve Got Better Things to do than Use Drugs…..Too Smart to Start”-Staff and students are asked to wear a shirt that represents a drug free activity (major league or local) ex: sports or a club.

Friday 10/26- “The Cost for Being a Roxbury Resident and Living a Drug Free Life…..Priceless”- Staff and Students are asked to wear school colors.

I hope that you discuss Red Ribbon Week with your child and encourage him/her to participate in the daily activities.  The prevention of violence and drug abuse in the schools and community is a team effort, and the team would not be complete without you, the parent.

Sincerely,
