The Roxbury School District proudly welcomes the appointment of Dr. Michael A. Rossi, Jr. as the Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Rossi comes to the Roxbury School District with a wealth of experience in Education. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Seton Hall University, a Master of Arts in Social Science from Montclair State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University.  Dr. Rossi also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Moravian College.

Dr. Rossi is currently the Superintendent of Schools for the Lopatcong School District and will join Roxbury on July 1, 2008.  Prior to his position as Superintendent, Dr. Rossi served as an Elementary School Principal and District Administrator.  He has also held the positions of: Supervisor of Social Studies and Gifted & Talented, Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction and High School Social Studies Teacher.  Dr. Rossi has taught at Centenary College as an Education Professor.   In addition to this, he has also served as a basketball coach at the high school and collegiate level.

Dr. Rossi has several professional publications and has participated in numerous speaking engagements throughout his career.  He is eager to bring his experience to the Roxbury Township School District. “I am thrilled to become part of the Roxbury family.  The tradition of excellence, both within the classroom and the extra and co-curricular offerings, is what attracted me.  I hope that I will contribute toward sustaining that legacy,” said Rossi.

In addition to his professional experience as an educator leader, Dr. Rossi’s role as a father plays an important factor in his decision making process, “Being a parent of three children, ages 13, 11 & 7, I recognize the value of a great education.  Understanding that, I will never make a decision for the Roxbury children that I wouldn’t want made for the Rossi children,” said Rossi.

The search firm of Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates, Ltd., a professional services corporation, coordinated the search.  Administrators, teachers, staff, students and community members of the district participated in the selection process.

Board of Education President Terry D’Agostino feels very positive about their selection. “After surveying the district and community, the Board felt that Dr. Rossi met all the criteria that we as a board and the community desired in a Superintendent. We are very fortunate to find a candidate of the caliber of Dr. Rossi and feel he will serve our district well.  The board unanimously gave him a vote of confidence,” said Terry D’Agostino.

The Roxbury School District looks forward to Dr. Rossi’s arrival on July 1
