From the Roxbury Public Library:
Mark your calendar for the first Saturday after Labor Day, and plan on helping us celebrate our 20th Annual Olde Suckasunny Day! This old fashioned street fair offers a variety of vendor and community booths, with festivities including activities, games, crafts, and food. The fun begins at 10:00am, and will run until 4:00pm. Organizers and hosts for this event are the Roxbury Township Public Library, the First Presbyterian Church of Sucasunna, and the Succasunna Methodist Church. Main Street will be blocked from Hunter Street to North Hillside Avenue from 9:30am to 4:00pm, so we can all walk freely in this area formerly known as “Suckasunny Plains, NJ”. The Library will remain open until 4:00pm on this day. Parking will be available in the Franklin School Lot, as well as other spots nearby.
Booth space is available at all three locations. Non-profit organizations may apply for space on the Library grounds. Crafters will apply at the Presbyterian Church. Vendors and businesses will apply through the Methodist Church. The completed application is returned to the appropriate location, with one application good for any of the three participating organizations. This application can be downloaded from the web at http://roxburylibrary.org, or may be picked-up at the Library. There is a nominal fee for most booth spaces, although the Library has a few standard spaces available free-of-charge for non-profit groups.
The Friends of the Roxbury Township Public Library will be holding their semi-annual Used Book Sale from 10:00am to 4pm. The sale will be held in the large meeting room of the Library. Members of the Friends are entitled to attend a special preview sale on Thursday evening, September 6, from 6 to 9pm. If you’re not yet a Friend, you may become a member that evening. Hours continue on Friday, September 7, from 5 to 8pm. “Bag day” will be Sunday, September 9, from noon to 3pm. Donations for the sale are being accepted between Thursday, August 16 and Tuesday, September 4, during regular Library hours. We remind you that the books, audio and videotapes that are donated must be in good condition, as we cannot accept them otherwise. You might want to donate books you’ve read, and then stop in during the sale to pick-up more books, available at terrific prices.
There is no rain date, and in the event of inclement weather, the steering committee for Olde Suckasunny Day will make the decision that morning, as to whether or not to hold outside activities. So hope for good weather, plan on bringing your family and friends, and help us commemorate our 20th Anniversary. I look forward to seeing you there!
