OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS OF 2005

At the April 21, 2005 Volunteer Management Centers Recognition Dinner and Awards Presentation, Mr. Frank Dekmar, Roxbury High School teacher and coach, was recognized at one of the 2005 Outstanding Volunteers.

Mr. Dekmar’s nomination for this award was forwarded to the Volunteer Management Centers by the Roxbury P.E.C. (Parents for Exceptional Children, Inc.).  Mr. Dekmar has served as a volunteer coach for the PEC SlamFest Basketball program for the past two years.  He not only has volunteered his time as head coach, but he has also secured all of the peer volunteers from the high school.

SlamFest is a recreation program for children that are classified and in special education in grades two through twelve in the Roxbury School District.  The program is a coordinated effort of the Roxbury P.E.C., the Roxbury Recreation Department and the Roxbury High School Athletic Department.

According to P.E.C. President, Mrs. Cheri Alexander, “Because of Coach Dekmar’s contributions to the success of this program, we are now developing, expanding and implementing new programs for kids.”  “Without Coach Dekmar this would not have been possible; his commitment and his enjoyment of the kids and the program have been instrumental in the expansion of programs.”
