EISENHOWER
MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER HEADS TO JAPAN
Eisenhower Middle School Teacher, Mrs. Barbara Delaney, will depart for Tokyo on October 9, 2005, as a participant in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund (JFMF) Teacher Program. Mrs. Delaney was selected from a national pool of over 2,500 applicants by a panel of educators to earn this honor. This program allows distinguished primary and secondary school educators in the U.S. to travel to Japan for three weeks in an effort to promote greater intercultural understanding between the two nations.
Mrs. Delaney will be among 200 educators visiting Japan in October. Mrs. Delaney is very excited for this wonderful learning opportunity. Mrs. Delaney is honored to be a part of this program. Mrs. Delaney said, “It is a tremendous honor to be representing both my school and my country in Japan. I believe that the way to improving our world is through education.”
Mrs. Delaney
will be returning to Roxbury with a tremendous amount of knowledge to share. “The things that I learn will be passed along to my students and to other
students and members of the Roxbury community through presentations and lessons
in the classroom. In the spring my 7th grade LLD class will be designing and
creating a Japanese garden in our school courtyard. They too will be
learning first hand about a treasured pastime in the Japanese culture,” said
Delaney.
Primary and
secondary school educators throughout the United States can apply to take part
in one of the three trips to Japan scheduled for 2006, as guests of the Japanese
Government.
