The Morris County Professional Counselors Association recently honored two Roxbury High School seniors as Caring Students of the Year. Amanda Faul has worked in a soup kitchen, helped first graders read, participated in many fundraisers and sang Christmas carols to shut ins. Her most meaningful activity; however, was being part of the Christian Outreach Project where she spent time on summer vacations helping with home repairs for elderly, handicapped and disadvantaged. Amanda will continue her education at West Virginia Wesleyan College, as she prepares for a career in elementary education.
Morris County School of Technology’s Caring Student was Michael Wohn who is a senior at Roxbury High School. Michael served as president of the Student Advocacy Club and speaks to learning disabled students about focusing on the positive things in life, setting goals and self esteem. He also volunteers at the YMCA teaching Down Syndrome children how to swim and is an active member of the Student Council and Safety Committee at MCST.
Students who demonstrate an exemplary commitment to community service are chosen to represent their schools. This year the ceremony was held at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Janice Huff, WNBC meteorologist, was the guest speaker.
