LINCOLN/ROOSEVELT DARES TO CARE

The Lincoln/Roosevelt School Forensic Club, in conjunction with Roxbury Social Services, has implemented a school wide Dare to Care program.  The goal of this program is to help students understand the concept of selfless giving.  Eileen Lee, president of the Forensic Club, explained to the students that selfless giving is giving knowing that you have helped to quench a thirst, ease a hunger or brighten a life of someone who cannot repay your kindness.  It is giving without thought of individual gain.

Students from the Forensic Club performed a brief assembly program to kick-off the Dare to Care program.  Their theme, “I’m a Kid and I Dare to Care,” was delivered through the use of original oratory and power point.  Steven Strauss and Rachel Martinex explained how students could activate their generosity and kindness.  “Currently there are local families who struggle everyday to provide necessities of food, clothing, and shelter for their children.  When the holidays come around, toys are a luxury these families cannot afford.”

The Dare to Care program ran from December 1, 2003 through December 15, 2003.  Through the efforts of the Forensic Club, Lincoln/Roosevelt School students are making a difference.
