Five students from
Roxbury High School have attended the State DECA (Distributive Education
Club of America) Leadership Conference after qualifying to attend at the
Northern Regional Conference in January.
The State DECA
Conference was held February 26, 2004 through February 28, 2004 at the Cherry
Hill Hilton, in Cherry Hill, NJ. At this conference, students competed in
various areas of Marketing such as Business Services, Sports Marketing, Retail
Merchandising, etc.
Some students
competed individually while others competed with a partner. The
competition is much like the new series with Donald Trump, but the DECA members
had to resolve Marketing and Business case studies in thirty minutes or less.
They were also required to take a Marketing and Business Exam in their
particular career area.
Their scores were ranked within each event, and the top scorers were awarded medals, trophies, and the opportunity to compete at the International DECA Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Nashville, Tennessee at the beginning of May. Lauren Galluzzo and Chris Laurentino won trophies for individual events. Finalist medals were awarded to Dave Indiveri and Chris Laurentino.
For the past two years,
RHS representatives have attended the International Conference in Salt Lake
City, Utah and Orlando, Florida.
