The third graders in Franklin School learned about modern day pilgrims when they read Molly’s Pilgrim, by Barbara Cohen. It is a Thanksgiving story about an immigrant girl from Russia experiencing her first Thanksgiving in the United States.
The students were asked to discuss their personal heritage with their family members to help them better understand immigration. They then made clothespin dolls decorated from their ancestors’ background using scraps of cloth, glue and markers. A name was given to the dolls and a short story was written about the life of their doll.
