ROXBURY REVIEW ATTENDS NATIONAL CONVENTION

The leadership of the Roxbury Review, the Roxbury High School student newspaper, was recently privileged to attend the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association Convention from November 20th to 23rd in Washington, D.C. Six editors traveled with their journalism teacher and adviser, Jane Hopper, to attend educational sessions and meet student journalists from all over the United States and Canada.

More than 5,000 students, educators and professional journalists attended the convention at the Washington Hilton. The Review’s editors learned about First Amendment issues, design and layout trends, investigative reporting, newspaper staff management, and the business side of running a newspaper.

The convention gave the students an opportunity to expand their thinking about their roles as student journalists, and to find practical solutions to the problems presented during newspaper production. They also discovered the vibrant community of student journalists who share their challenges and accomplishments, and alongside them promote responsible journalism on the high school level.
