ROXBURY’S VARSITY “R” CLUB WALKS FOR A CAUSE

On Sunday, October 19, 2003, the Roxbury High School Varsity “R” Club will be participating in a five-mile walk at Giralda Farms in Madison, New Jersey, which will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Fund.

Participation, in walks such as this, is routine for the Varsity “R” Club.  This club represents the athletes of Roxbury High School.  The club works to enhance the natural leadership skills of the athletes.  The program reinforces the need to reach out and make a positive contribution to the community of Roxbury.

The Varsity “R” Club extends an invitation to the community of Roxbury to join them, either as a spectator or as a participant, at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.   Community members who attend the event are asked to wear the school colors of blue and gold, as way to show support for the athletes from Roxbury.

According to Heather Holly, teacher at Roxbury High School, “Our goal is to get as many people involved as possible to raise funds to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society.”
