Two
Roxbury High School seniors, Ryann Harris and Laura Montoya, submitted AP
Portfolios to the College Board for evaluation to earn college credit.
They are both Art Major II \ Independent Study students and have been
working hard to develop a comprehensive body of work that includes a
concentration unified by an underlying idea that has visual coherence.
They are the first Roxbury High School Visual Art students to participate
in the AP Studio Art program. They
will be informed over the summer of their grade and credit for the portfolio
will be considered at the college/art school that they attend.
Other
exciting news for the Roxbury High School Art Department, includes the
scheduling of a Raku Workshop to be held at the high school on Friday, May 20,
2005 (rain date, May 23, 2005) for the Ceramics II/ Art Major II students.
Students have been creating ceramic forms from Raku clay to be fired
during the event. Teacher Nancy
Goldberg was awarded a RFEE Grant for funding of this project.
Steve Jaskowack, Professor of Ceramics from Kean University, will be
instructing the class. There will be demonstrations of throwing on the wheel as well
as the drama of a Raku fire.
Additionally, the Teen Arts Competition and Festival took place on
Monday, May 16, 2005 at County College of Morris. Twenty five students had work submitted and participated in
the workshops and activities. Two
students placed, receiving awards for DISTINCTION IN FINE ARTS.
Sara Pinkerton, grade 11, and Lisa DeGaetano, grade 12, both students of
Ms. Lyden.
