FOUR RHS STUDENTS NAMED TO ALL EASTERN CHORUS

Roxbury High School had four students named to the All Eastern Chorus, more than any other high school in the state.  These students are:  Megan Davenport, Jackie Haggerty, Dan Holwick and Kyle Tillyer.

These students were four of 102 New Jersey high school musicians and singers who spent March 3-6, 2005 in Baltimore as members of the All-Eastern ensembles. The groups included a band, an orchestra, a chorus and a jazz ensemble. The youths spent several days in rehearsals before performing concerts.

In the All-Eastern groups, New Jersey had two students in the 18-member jazz ensemble, 23 students in the 150-member band; 23 students in the 150-member orchestra and 54 students in the 340-member chorus. The Eastern Division of MENC organizes the All-Eastern groups: the National Association for Music Education.

To qualify for All Eastern, the New Jersey students first had to audition for the All-State ensembles. The ones with the highest audition scores can apply for in All Eastern, which is composed of all of the northeastern United States, from Maine to Washington, D.C. The high school groups are chosen in conjunction with the biennial Eastern Division Conference of the National Association for Music Education.
