ROXBURY STUDENTS TO ATTEND THE JUDICIAL MENTORING PROGRAM FOR YOUNG MINDS

Three Roxbury High School students, Krystian Opalinski, Alicia Martinez and Christina Cabassa, have been selected to attend this year’s Judicial Mentoring Program for Young Minds, which is sponsored by the Morris/Sussex Vicinage of the Superior Court of New Jersey.

The Judicial Mentoring Program for Young Minds is designed to better educate young people about the judicial system and judicial process.  On September 13, 2004, these three students had the privilege of attending The Judicial Mentoring Program for Young Minds orientation, which was held at The Morris County Courthouse in Morristown, NJ.  During this orientation, Krystian, Alicia and Christina were made aware of the numerous opportunities that this program will afford them.

Through a six-week program, these three students will be engaged in presentations conducted by the Madison Police Department, The New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission, The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action, Morris County Bar Association, Morris County Sheriff’s Department and the Public Defender’s Office.

They will also visit different areas of the court, as well as appropriate social agencies affiliated with the courts.  Krystian, Alicia and Christina will also have the opportunity to converse with judges in their chambers to obtain an overview of the court system and the judges’ daily responsibilities.

Just as these students have been granted this once in a lifetime opportunity, other students from Morris or Sussex County in grades 10 through 12 may be nominated for this program.  Teachers, counselors, parents and students can make nominations for candidates to this program.  A selection committee, who looks for students who meet a variety of program requirements, reviews all applications of potential participants. Application packages for Roxbury High School students may be obtained through the Roxbury High School Guidance Office.
