WALLENBERG HONORS

Brittany Smith, a Roxbury High School senior, has been recognized as a 2005 Wallenberg Finalist.  Brittany, along with other students from Morris, Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Passaic, Sussex, Hudson and Union counties, were recognized at the Tenth Annual Wallenberg Honors Ceremony on May 5, 2005.

The primary goal of the Wallenberg Foundation is to recognize students who act with courage and compassion in their service to others, in the performance of an act of heroism or bravery, or in promoting understanding, acceptance ,tolerance and peace in their school or community.  The program is designed for young people based on the ideals of Raoul Wallenberg.  He was a wealthy Swedish diplomat of the Lutheran faith, who is credited with rescuing 100,000 Jews from certain death in World War II.

The Wallenberg Foundation Co-Chairpersons, Board of Trustees and Consultants congratulated Brittany, as well as the other students recognized.  They also congratulated the students’ families on supporting these fine young people and look forward to the ripples of goodness that run out from each of the students – the heirs of Raoul Wallenberg’s legacy: one person can make a difference.
