WHAT PREJUDICE MEANS TO ME

 

Nine Lincoln/Roosevelt students were honored on Monday, May 9, 2005 at the 8th annual awards ceremony sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women for the contest, “What Prejudice Means to Me”.

This year, 1675 art and written entries were submitted by sixth graders from twenty six public, private and parochial schools in Morris County.  For the past eight years, Mrs. Judith Greenberg, the language arts teacher on Team L, has encouraged her students to submit entries, and each year, her students have received awards for their work.  This year, forty one students participated and the following won awards: 

Brenda Bukowiecki – Grand Prize

Aaron Bossard – Outstanding

Shannon Gaffney – Outstanding

Robert Pohida – Outstanding

Trey Dix – Honorable Mention

Menat Elashaky – Honorable Mention

Darian Hoagland – Honorable Mention

Matthew Roome – Honorable Mention

Jason Weinpel – Honorable Mention

Brenda’s artwork adorns the back cover of this year’s annual magazine; while the writings of Aaron, Shannon and Robert appear within the publication.  The winning entries will be a part of a traveling exhibit to be displayed throughout Morris County during the year.  In addition, Brenda’s artwork will be displayed on June 5, 2005 in a juried art show at the Griffin Art Gallery in Madison, New Jersey.

Each Team L contributor received a certificate of participation at an awards ceremony held in the Lincoln School auditorium on Wednesday, May 25, 2005.  The nine winners showed and explained their artwork or read their written work to their peers.
