Danica Kuti, a sixth grade student from Mrs. DeGregorio’s Science class at Lincoln Roosevelt School in Succasunna, won first place for her grade level in the “Celebrate Arbor Day Art Contest 2006”.
The contest, held each year in April, is open to all New Jersey students in grades K – 12 and helps make them aware of the importance of trees in our environment. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Arbor Day and Community Forestry in NJ”. Sixth grade students had to create original artwork and write a short story on the topic “How to Use Trees Everyday”.
Two other students were also recognized in this contest, Danielle Terreri and Nick Wagstaff, who received second and third place respectively. Danica will receive a $50.00 gift certificate and a medal for her accomplishment. Both Danielle and Nick received 100 seedling trees to distribute to their classmates who will plant some of the seedlings around the school grounds to help beautify the community. All three students will have their artwork and essays published in an Arbor Day Celebration book for New Jersey.
