Next Week at a Glance for Families

Mrs. Karen Lunardoni, Principal

Words of Wisdom by Leo Buscaglia:

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Unfortunately…we have discovered several new cases of lice in the school.  If your child’s classroom is involved you have received a letter from Mrs. Zenna.  I appreciate your patience and understanding that as a school we are acting diligently to maintain a clean environment.  I certainly appreciate that despite your best efforts children may encounter these little pests in any number of ways beyond anyone’s control.  As always, if your child has been in close contact with someone who has been found to have lice, or if you have any suspicions based on your own observations/child’s report, please give Mrs. Zenna a call to examine your child’s head before allowing your child to ride the bus or mix with the general population.  As always, you are welcome to send in a headset for your child’s exclusive use in the computer lab.  We have suspended the use of the shared headsets until this current infestation is resolved.

You may be interested to know… New Jersey recently passed legislation that allows individual school districts to change the time of school elections to November (when there would likely be a larger turnout).  Included in this legislation is the provision that as long as the school budget stays within the maximum 2% increase over the prior year, it is subject to the approval of the elected members of the Board of Education and does not require a majority vote by the general voting population.  This process would mirror the representative process by which the voice of the electorate is reflected in the votes of elected officials, as is the case with municipal, state, and federal budgets.  This matter will be voted upon at the next meeting of the Roxbury Board of Education on Monday, February 7, at 7:30 in the Lincoln-Roosevelt Auditorium.  As with all issues, there are well-intended arguments to support different viewpoints, and the voices of our families matter.  Please join me in attending this important meeting to learn of how this issue impacts you and our school district, as well as to have the opportunity to have your voice heard.
