Community
Connections

In accordance with the NJ Core Standards, second graders should be proficient in comparing a variety of places. As we embarked on our study of Roxbury, we identified, compared, contrasted, summarized, analyzed and distinguished the differences between our community and other cities. We accomplished this objective by not only utilizing our computer to research the information needed to make accurate comparisons, but we utilized interdisciplinary strategies in music and art to achieve our goal. I developed the Roxbury song to enhance the connection between the student and their community. In addition, we created maps, summarized the text, and devised a Venn diagram showing the differences and similarities of Roxbury and New York City. On October 21, 2003, we demonstrated mastery of our social studies unit by presenting in front of our Board of Education members, community officials, parents, and friends. With high expectations, the students produced exemplary results.

Roxbury

Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is the place for me.
Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is for me.

Imagination Station, It's great fun that's indeed.
We love running, climbing, jumping
It's great fun come and see.

Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is the place for me.
Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is for me.

We have a library, a post office too.
KB Toys, Panera and Cliff's
Some are old and some are new

Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is the place for me.
Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is for me.

Now let's talk about Kennedy.
It's a great school in every way.
Mrs. Wallock always says to do your best everyday.

Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is the place for me.
Roxbury, Roxbury, Roxbury is for me.
Repeat.
